Yin Yemin is a poet, painter and urbanist practicing in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, PRC. Born in Dongguan, Guangdong province, Yemin grew up just outside the famous Ke Gardens, one of Guangdong’s greatest cultural treasures, and the inspiration for her lifelong vocation in the arts. For Yemin, the traditional arts and cultures of Guangdong, and the ancient world views they embody, form an essential foundation for her vision of China’s future — a vision of astonishing poetic clarity, emotional depth, and social engagement. A deep personal vision, of our return to quiet, ethical awareness and action, permeates her work across several media. Her poems, and the paintings which loosely or fragmentally illustrate them, are perhaps the most direct entry point into a fertile and socially-committed imagination.
